Pilot Forced To Eject From Jet At Supersonic Speed

Supersonic Ejection

Ejecting from a plane is the last thing a pilot wants to do do, but it is the first thing he has to do if he wants a chance at living.

Many people think you just pull a lever and safely eject from a plane in trouble, but ejection comes with its own set of problems that could be fatal to a pilot, especially when that ejection happens at supersonic speed.

The likelihood of surviving ejecting from a plane which is traveling at a speed breaking the sound barrier is slim to none, but one pilot miraculously survived such a scenario and lived to talk about it.

Brian Udell, Air Force Captain, was flying on a routine training mission accompanied by his Weapons Officer when he heard strange noises outside of his jet.

He realized the plane was approaching supersonic speed, Captain Udell was forced to make a split-second decision, one that would forever change his life.

No matter the amount of training he had been given, it could not have prepared him for what happens when you eject out of a plane at supersonic speed.

A truly amazing story of survival.
